Yogesh Dabas’ Inspiring Journey
Hello everyone,My name is Yogesh Dabas, and I am a professional photographer based in Toronto, Canada. This is the first blog on my website, and I want to begin by sharing my story, not just as a photographer but as a person behind the camera.
This journey has not been easy. It has been full of struggles, learning, failures, patience, and passion. I am sharing it with the hope that it connects with anyone who is still quietly chasing their dreams.
The Beginning, Family, and Values
I was born and raised in Kanjhawala, Delhi, in a simple and grounded family. My mother is a homemaker and the silent strength of our home. My father served in the Delhi Police, teaching me discipline, honesty, and responsibility from a very young age.
I come from a huge extended family of more than 100 people. By God’s grace, I share a strong and loving bond with all of them. Growing up surrounded by so many relationships taught me emotions, connections, and human values early in life.
After shooting more than 300 weddings, I truly understand how important family emotions are. I feel them deeply because I have lived them since childhood. This is what makes me a very emotional wedding filmmaker today. I do not just record moments, I feel them.
My own family is my biggest support system. My wife, Dr. Nitika Dabas, is a research scientist in Canada, and her belief in me keeps me grounded. We are blessed with two beautiful sons, Aaric, who is 8 years old, and Anvith, who is 18 months old today. They are my strength, my motivation, and my reason to keep going.
Discovering Photography and Passion
It was never easy to enter wedding photography and videography when I started, but I always knew one thing. I wanted to be a photographer.
From childhood, I was fascinated by cameras, lenses, framing, and visuals. Even when I did not own a camera, the dream was already alive inside me.
I shared this passion with my closest school friend, Capt. Vishal Choudhary. His journey is inspiring in its own way, and I will share more about him in a future blog. He has played an important role in my life.
I did not have shortcuts. I learned by failing, observing, practicing, and standing back up.
Falling, Learning, and Finding My Voice
I fell many times. There were rejections, doubts, and moments when I questioned myself. But every fall shaped me.
My journey eventually took me to Kashmir, where my wedding photography and films started receiving recognition. Seeing couples and families connect emotionally with my work made me realize that this is more than work for me. This is purpose.
Cinema and Storytelling
I am a cinema lover. I have loved movies since childhood.
Cinema shaped how I understand emotions, framing, music, silence, and storytelling. Many films influenced who I am today, not only as a filmmaker but also as a human being.
Even today, I continue learning from cinema. I am now exploring world cinema and different storytelling styles. In future blogs, I will share the films that shaped me and the cinema that inspires me today.
A New Chapter in Canada
In 2023, I moved to Toronto, Canada to begin a new chapter in my life. In 2024, I officially started working here as a professional photographer.
Starting fresh in a new country is not easy. You rebuild trust, relationships, and confidence slowly.
I may not be shooting every single day, and I may not be where I want to be financially yet. But after more than one decade of dedication, I know I am on the right path.
